A Natural Intro

It was a clear day, but below the cloudless sky was something far more serious and sinister. A legendary dragon pokemon had kneeled, admitting defeat to its opposite. In a similar fashion, the former’s master kneeled in defeat as well.

Jade eyes slowly drifted up, blurred by childish emotion. Somewhere in the man’s mind was the smallest hope that he was overeating – that the dragon pokemon would have been standing when he looked. It was not.

“Everything’s ruined,” he slowly, quietly spoke, forcing himself to accept reality. “The philosophy I held… The dreams pokemon shared…”

The Deino’s echoing barking forcibly roused the man from sleep. After instinctively throwing himself into a hunched over sitting position, N scanned the dusty, eerie, empty car. Nothing. No danger was there, but the car’s door had opened and was allowing the sound of people and civilization to float into the car.

“Ah! We’re here, Little One!” N said, his face lighting up as he looked upon his companion. The pokemon at his feet was now up and rearing on its hind legs, ready to exit and explore after a very restful nap.

“I wonder where our kind, unknown friend has brought us to,” N pondered as he gathered his white cloak about him and stepped onto the platform. His eyes scanned the lone overhead sign: Sallowgeist. Contorting his face into a puzzled frown, N looked down again at his companion and then around. “I can’t say I’m familiar with the town; I’ve never seen it on any maps. What region is it in? I wonder.”

Little One merely rammed its head into a wooden support beam, taking in its surroundings. If not for a certain incident that involved ramming into and chewing on people’s legs and a subsequent lesson on etiquette from N, the Deino would have been making itself familiar with the few people that were walking about the platform. Sensing the familiar scent and movement of his human counterpart, Little One blindly walked toward N, who was in a conversation with a passerby.

“Umm… yes. There is a pokemon center, but not one where trainers can stay. Right next store is the town’s hotel. You can get to them by heading down the road, taking a right, and then heading straight two blocks – the town’s square.” the woman said awkwardly, seemingly sizing up and judging the green man.

N was polite enough to stay his tongue and not object to being a trainer – that assumption invariably occurred. “Ah, yes. Thank you. Have a nice day.” After another odd up-and-down from the woman, he turned to Little One. “Come along, shall we get our bearings and then explore?”

The pokemon barked happily and bounced alongside N as the two walked according to the woman’s instructions. In no time at all, they had reached the square. Near the very center was a violinist and a guitarist playing. Finding a nearby bench, N allowed his cloak to fall behind him, revealing his front before sitting down. He tapped the spot beside him. “Come on, Little One. Let us enjoy this town – our places of rest aren’t going anywhere.”

Ignoring the sound above him, the Deino merely settled itself at N’s feet, yawning once. Travel weariness had come back to the pokemon.

It was such a lovely day that May decided to take a little stroll through the square. Well. It wasn’t really lovely. And the amount of daylight that was left was far and few in between. But May did decide to take a walk, and that’s exactly what the coordinator did. She’d mostly just wandered, took a look at the store fronts. It wasn’t exactly good window-shopping territory… As many of the stores on that side of town were either abandoned or somewhat shady, with windows so dusty you’d wonder if anyone had actually entered the building in any number of years.

At first that kind of stuff was a little eerie, but after a while it just became dull. May’s walk along the grey-faced shopfronts took up a good chunk of her evening, and eventually led her back to square…. Amidst the few other passerby, she spotted a bench placed conveniently in the center. Where, by happenstance, a green-haired man sat.

“Um… Excuse me. Mind if I sit here?” May did her best to be polite- she sat down without waiting for any kind of answer from him, though.

A little lacking, don’t you think? (Intro/Open)

“Hmph, not quite the town I imagined this place to be, but then again, what isn’t nowadays?” A little smirk popped up on the boys face, getting himself ready to disembark this ghastly vehicle. Grabbing all of his bags, Ruby left the train, gazing around at the town of Sallowgeist. He thought it an odd name at first, but then he realized why the town was named as such; the atmosphere around here was terribly gloomy. Looking around, Ruby scoffed. “Hardly a town full of decorative manner…but I suppose it shall do. It’s quite calm…” Closing his eyes, Ruby had a moment of silence when the train whistle disrupted him, causing him to fall down in shock.

“H-Hey, watch when you do that, I could’ve gotten some of this disgusting murk on my clothes, do you know how long it took me to-” Ruby stopped, noticing the gazes of others looking at him, almost as if they were looking straight into his soul. Blinking, Ruby coughed, and merely chuckled, getting up. “Sorry, sorry, I lost my composure there for a second, I am not that horrid, no no; I only strive to be extremely eloquent at all times, that was a mere slip of the tongue. No offense to you, patrons.” The others merely grunted, walking their own way. Ruby huffed, feeling his cheeks puff up in annoyance. “Well, you could have said thanks…”

Standing up and stretching himself out from the rather long trip, Ruby took out what seemed like a map of the place, the only thing catching his eye to be a rather large…tower, a clock tower, it seemed? Looking up, Ruby tried to find the impressive thing, but was only disappointed to see that the fog obscured his vision. Sighing, he closed up the map. “Hmph, points are being deducted as we speak…I thought this would be the perfect place but…” Later would possibly be the best time to catch up on the clock, he thought, but for now, he would have to retire in the hotel.

Picking up his bags, he could feel the Pokeballs on his belt move around; his Pokemon seemed a little anxious about this place. Ruby merely raised an eyebrow; strange, they almost never seem to react like this when we go places, he thought. Shrugging it off, the boy merely walked to his destination; and possibly a place where he can finally get some decent sleep without some hooligan harassing him. Such is life, he thought.

May was just turning the corner of the block, a bit of a spring in her step from finally being unencumbered by the hefty luggage that she had dropped off in the hotel room she’d checked into. However, the girl stopped short in her trouncing when she noticed a very familiar hatted - head. Well, if it wasn’t her good ol’ bro, Ruby! Since he seemed distracted by his own thoughts, she took it upon herself to surprise him.

Stepping oh-so stealthily, matching her footsteps with his, she slowly closed the space between them… And then giving his jacket a good hard yank. (She’d wanted to pull on his shoulders but… well, he was a good bit taller than the last time they’d ran into each other. Boys and their growth spurts, she guessed.)

“Ruuuuuuby! I didn’t think you’d be here so early! I thought your train was gonna show up tomorrow, at least.” The girl rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet, somewhere between excitement and nagging.

“But, here I am, naive little me, thinking you’d have the courtesy to call when you got off the train~. How rude of you!” She gave a false pout and stuck her tongue out at him playfully. She could tell he’d only just left the station, but it was just too fun to tease him.

May stepped down from the platform, dropping her suitcases down with a heavy thud. She looked up and squinted into what little light of the late afternoon sun was visible through the miserable gray fog. Even though it was the middle of spring, it seemed like there would be no reprieve from the thick fog and oppressive chills of the area. It was strange, when May read about the place, she expected the weather to be much more tropical, or at least sunnier- after all, it was an island.

She took the time to stretch her arms individually, releasing all the built up stiffness from the train ride. Admittedly, the method of transport was fascinating; that length of railroad is apparently the longest ever recorded, as it stretches for miles across the ocean- from the mainland to the isolated island. And it was, somehow, safe to ride despite that. ‘Marvels of technology’, May thought, ‘just plain impressive’.

She loaded up her bags onto a trolley-cart and pulled her coat closer to her body for warmth. There didn’t seem to be many people around, and even fewer people got off the train; seemed like most had other places to be. May sighed- she was hoping to at least talk to someone about this place… after all, she did come here to make friends.

And so, just like that, she began wandering around  the block, her luggage in tow.
